News from Laloma

Autumn 2026

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Laloma and Helford village. The gold and reds start to appear in the woodlands that surrounds the creeks and woodland walks are accompanied by the satisfying crunch of leaves. The weather is still gentle and often sunny in early Autumn and because the sea has soaked up all the Summer sun, September is the warmest time of the year to swim or try paddle boarding. The beaches are beautiful for a walk and much quieter than during the Summer rush, with the bonus that dogs start to be allowed on the beaches again at any time of day.

The swifts and Swallows may have left in August, however the skies are now busy with migrating birds including redshanks, curlews, dunlins, redwings and fieldfares. It is also a brilliant time to visit the The Cornish Seal Sanctuary In Gweek as between September and March the sanctuary takes in over 70 seals/pups a year to heal, rehabilitate and then release back into Cornish waters. Only a 22 minute drive from Laloma, the sanctuary also has many other animals to visit as well as a cafe, shop and regular events.

The village starts to smell like apples, leaf bonfires and seaweed, and it starts to be cool enough to enjoy Laloma’s log burner for a cosy evening in front of the TV or with a good book.

The Shipwright’s Arms in the Village also starts to offer Sunday roasts again in Autumn and Winter, always a treat to eat one of these while enjoying stunning views of the creek.

Reviews for Laloma Cottage

“Thanks again for fitting us in on such short notice. We’ve had the most wonderful holiday! We ended up spending the whole time around Helford River kayaking, swimming and drinking a pint at the Shipwrights. We parked the car last Friday and the first time we will move it will be tomorrow. We are still dreaming of Grebe beach, we both feel that  Summer at Laloma just beats Christmas which was our previous stays (very close call).”

“A “little gem! We had a perfect break and felt right at home. The village of Helford is beautiful and the house is perfectly positioned. A well stocked village shop and very welcoming pub across the road.

Spectacular views from the house, and walks from home, you don’t need to use the car if you don’t want to. We also enjoyed the ferry over to Helford Passage.

The house was well equipped, cosy and very welcoming. We didn’t want to leave and will definitely return.” – A (October 2023)

Laloma was our 5th stay in Helford and by far the best. Location, standard of F&F, reserved parking & cleanliness was exemplary.
