About Laloma Cottage

Sleeps 6 People

Laloma sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms

  • Bedroom 1 (the master bedroom) has a king size bed.
  • Bedroom 2 has a double bed
  • Bedroom 3 has twin beds

This gives lots of flexibility for guests and their families while maintaining a feeling of calm and space. The master bedroom and twin room have beautiful creek views from their windows while the double bedroom has a window seat and views over the courtyard to the front of Laloma.

Living Space and Facilities

Kitchen Facilities: new Bosch electric oven, new electric hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer machine, electric kettle and 4 slice toaster.

Dining/Living Room with creek views: Log burner, TV, desk, large sofa and two armchairs, sideboard and an extending table with enough chairs to seat 8 people.

There is one bathroom with a bath/shower and stunning creek views from the bathroom window.

Night storage heating throughout with a boost function.

There is patchy mobile signal in Helford but there is a landline for incoming calls and free WIFI in the property.

Outside Spaces

Outside there are two main seating areas for enjoying the beautiful views and gardens of Laloma. The first is a patio with a table and chairs to the front of Laloma that’s ideal for breakfast and there is also a small lawn with raised borders around the paths. The back patio can be accessed via french windows from the living room and enjoys lovely creek views.

The second outside seating area is on a high raised lawn with an 8 person picnic bench that has stunning views of the creek and village. In Spring this lawn is smothered in cowslips, daffodils and primroses and in Summer it is full of daisies, red campion, bird’s foot trefoil and valerian. The bird life in the garden is also a lovely feature with friendly robins, wrens, blackbirds and chaffinches as well as an abundance of swifts, martins and swallows in Summer. This is a wonderful spot for just sitting, eating a picnic or drinking your morning coffee, watching life go by and listening to the birdsong and seagulls.

Please keep children and dogs under close supervision at all times in the gardens as, although they are a wonderful place to play and explore, there are steep drops in some areas and the gardens as a whole are not securely fenced enough to keep dogs or children from escaping or falling.

Stargazing and Evenings at Laloma

At night you can hear owls and the gentle noises of the village going to sleep with the occasional early fisherman setting out. The stars at Laloma are stunning on a clear night due to the lack of light pollution and you can regularly see the Milky Way, planets, satellites and meteors. Make yourself a hot drink and either lie on a picnic blanket on the lawn, stand on the carpark by the creek or sit on the picnic bench for the best stargazing experiences.

On a clear night you can see meteors here all year round but the best times (weather permitting) are during the most well-known meteor showers:

Quadrantids – late December to early January – 110 meteors per/h
Eta Aquariids – mid April to late May – 50 meteors per/h
Delta Aquariids – mid July to late August – 25 meteors per/h
Perseids – mid July to late August – 100 meteors per/h
Geminids – early to mid December – 150 meteors per/h

The Helford River and Creek

Laloma is surrounded by beautiful Cornish countryside and is situated in the heart of the Helford village with stunning views of Helford Creek. It is also only a short walk from Frenchman’s Creek which is famous for Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name.

There are many coves and secret beaches to explore in the area and safe gentle waterways to visit by boat. The birdlife in the creeks are stunning and you can see rare little egrets, herons, cormorants and other diving birds, ducks and gulls as well as the resident swans.

Helford is also a stop on the South West Coast Footpath route.

Helford Village

The popular Shipwrights Arms pub is just a short stroll away and Laloma is conveniently right next to Helford Village Stores which offers a variety of foods, essentials and drinks (please be aware that in the colder months the shop may close earlier). There is also a seasonal cafe by the car park at the top of the village which serves drinks, cakes and lunches in Spring and Summer.

Helford Passage

To visit Helford Passage (on the other side of the Creek) you can take a foot ferry during the warmer months from The Point, at the far end of the village. Also on the Helford Passage side of the Creek are the beautiful suntropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan which are lovely to visit.
